Flax Master
Recipe for the best smoothie (originally from Earthbar). Serves 2 16 oz cups; half the amounts for 1 serving.
- 1 frozen Sambazon Acai bar (pure and unsweetened)
- 1 cup of frozen wild blueberries (aka billberry).
- 2 bananas
- 2 teaspoons of unfiltered flax oil (lignans for anti-cancer). [not actually necessary despite the name and can be dropped if you have digestive issues]
- 2 tablespoons of almond butter.
- 2 tablespoons of unsweetened vanilla whey protein isolate (safest and has least heavy metal).
- 2 teaspoons of gelatinized maca powder (optional) [omit if digestive issues].
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional, can be dropped entirely)
- 1 cup of coconut water.
My own additions/preferences:
- Replace coconut water with almond milk, cashew milk.
- Add Kefir for calcium/bone-health [omit if digestive issues].
- Replace almond butter with peanutbutter if almond too expensive or not available.
- Replace flax oil with fish oil (better omega-3s). Omit if already eating fish regularly [or if digestive issues].
- Add frozen kale (you don't taste it but it's good for you).
- Add broccoli microgreens for sulforaphane/myrosinase to "unlock" more nutrients from frozen vegetables (otherwise it mostly passes through you because of blaunching) + 10x more nutrients than normal vegetables. Alternatively use a pinch of ground mustard powder if you want something more convenient to do the unlocking (but no extra nutrients).
- Add avocado for healthy fats [omit if digestive issues].
Nutrient facts (32oz) at the bottom for those curious (courtesy of Jamba Juice by customizing to this smoothie on their website).
